 | The Great Mechapixellian NovelBy: kokopelli
Tuesday October 04, 2005 - 11:44:59 PM CST
Back in January, we tried something different - we started a novel. It was written by... well, anyone who wanted to contribute. The story unfolded in the Writer's Block forum over the course of 10 months, from January to October 2005. There were 18 total authors, and some folks contributed to the story 2 or 3 times.
Well, the novel is now finished, and compiled here for your reading pleasure!
Warning: this story is unedited, and contains an ounce or two of profanity.

| | Looting vs. Finding ... Part 2?By: Ved
Saturday September 03, 2005 - 02:27:09 PM CST
Despite a week full of controversy, it appears that Yahoo News still hasn't learned their lesson.
On Wednesday, two photographs of New Orleans residents making their way through chest-deep water prompted a tidal wave of chatter among bloggers about whether there is bias (or downright racism) in media coverage of post-Katrina looting.
Well, that controversy has since died down, but recent findings by the Katrina Media Watch team here at Mechapixel reveal a new set of photos with similar disturbing captions.

| | Journey Of A Pork ButtBy: b0rg9

Boston butt pork is a wonderful thing. Put on earth to serve man and his sammich needs, this cut of meat is quite rewarding given the time -- and almost ritual ceremony -- to prepare.
The following is my timeline and step-by-step process of turning this "best excuse to buy a smoker grill" into fine pulled pork sandwiches.

| | The Death of CreativityBy: khonshu
Sunday July 24, 2005 - 02:29:07 PM CST
Creativity is a dying proficiency.
Many Americans, like me, diligently search for the praise received for making something "original." As a child, when I drew a picture of something new or wrote an original story, I would show it to everyone around me, complete stranger or not, until I got a "Hey, that's great" out of absolutely anyone who would look.
Ignoring the "What the heck is that?" questions that unimaginative critics were bound to hurl my way; my goal was to find the one person - usually my paternal grandmother - who would understand the idea that I was trying to convey.

| | Roskilde 2005By: lukket
Saturday July 16, 2005 - 06:43:49 AM CST
After having been critized for not having enough rock names and after being almost drowned in rain in 2004, Roskilde Festival got a lineup that headlined big rock names like Foo Fighters, Audioslave, Black Sabbath, Green Day, Kent and D-A-D (the two last are at least big in Europe) - also the sun had been summoned to shine on for the 4+4 days of the festival.
This year, I was going home Saturday night, so there will only be reviews for three days, but I have strived to be present at so many acts as possible. Read on for my reviews on the concerts I experienced.

| | How to cope with getting ripped off at the drive-thruBy: Ved
Monday July 04, 2005 - 03:42:40 AM CST
We've all been there. That moment when you realize that you only received one burger instead of two. Three fries instead of four. A small instead of a large. And guess who has to pay for it by being the bearer of bad news to a significant other, child, friends, or golden retriever? That’s right. You.
In this article, I will present you with several possible actions you can take in getting the food that you paid for, and go over ways you can minimize the amount of stress that it causes you in the process.

| | RoskildeBy: lukket

Initial reviews from Roskilde:
Tonnes of Slippery Mud:
Very dominating Danish band. Seems to be so popular, so you'll find it anywhere. I don't like it particularly, but I bought some army boots, and they're more tolerable now.
Pouring Rain:
They played both Wednesday and yesterday, and they topped it off with a tribute to ToSM (see above). I don't hope they're going to play anymore.
Hot Scandinavian chicks:
I'll recommend this band anytime. It's especially good when the sun is out.

| | The PWA E3 ReportBy: Smoo
Saturday October 02, 2004 - 12:57:13 AM CST
The Convention Center isn't very far away from where we live, and the train ride is relatively short, but there was a guy sitting about ten feet away from us, talking to his friend and making sure everybody on the train knew he was going to E3. Okay, fine. His enthusiasm is understandable, but then he started talking about *stuff.* He spent the entire ride talking about pretty much nothing, but doing it very loudly. A couple of highlights:
